And the 2011 Winner is… Social Entrepreneurs of New Orleans!

Social Entrepreneurs of New Orleans

After analyzing applications from around the region, we’re pleased to announce that the 2012 grant recipient is Social Entrepreneurs of New Orleans (SENO), a nonprofit that incubates new ventures offering innovative solutions to our community’s needs.

During the next year, Zande+Newman will work directly with SENO, delivering a full range of the studio’s transformational services. This represents a comprehensive approach to sharpen and energize the group’s strategy, build new relationships and know-how and develop the right design and communications solutions to power its strategy long after the year’s grant work has ended.

2012 Design Grant

“We’re extremely excited to start this partnership, which we believe will be a catalyst to leverage the gains and progress our community has experienced in the past few years,” says Andrea Chen, executive director of SENO. “All across our community, amazing people are creating entrepreneurial solutions to some of our most pressing social issues, like food deserts, childhood obesity, blight and choice in education. We hope to better tell their stories and inspire more people to take action through social innovation, and we think this grant will help us do that.”

About the Grant

We know our local nonprofits can help our community reach its full potential. And so, to help them fulfill their own potential, Zande+Newman Design now gives away one year of design and consulting for one nonprofit in the New Orleans region every year.

Jamie Wine, Executive Director of Bike Easy, discusses how the 2011 Nonprofit Design Grant has affected his organization.

Rules and Eligibility

While we’d like to help everybody who is helping others, we’ve learned we do a better job if we stay focused. So we have some eligibility requirements to qualify for the Design Grant. Please read the rules and requirements before applying.

  • Your non-profit organization must have 501(c)(3) status, or have a fiscal agent with this status
  • The focus of your work is in New Orleans or the surrounding region
  • Your overall budget must be between $70,000 and $1,000,000
  • Must have a strong vision, dynamic leadership, and be ready to collaborate on some great work!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does the grant recipient need to be a 501(c)(3) organization?

Yes. Mostly. We may consider an organization that is not a 501(c)(3) but has a 501(c)(3) organization acting as your fiscal agent.

  • Does the grant recipient need to be located in New Orleans?

No. However, we are interested in organizations that are contributing to the New Orleans region so be sure to help us understand how your work fits this mission.

  • Our work is in ______________ Parish. Can we still apply?

Yes. However, we are interested in organizations that are contributing to the New Orleans region so be sure to help us understand how your work fits this mission.

  • Our budget is less than $70,000 per year. Can we still apply?

We will consider applications from organizations with smaller budgets but you need to help us understand how your organization will be able to overcome the limitation of resources and make the most of this opportunity.

  • Our organization's budget is over $1 Million. Can we still apply?

Generally, we feel that an organization with that level of resources can and should pay market rate for marketing services — we aren’t here to put other designers out of business! However, if you feel there is a reason why your organization should still qualify then go ahead and apply and be sure to articulate why this cap should not apply in your case.

  • Our organization is brand new and so we don't have previous budgets to submit. Should we still apply?

Our goal is to build capacity within organizations that already have a proven track record of making things happen in spite of limited resources. That shows pluck. And tenacity. Focus on building up that track record and make a note to apply in a couple of years. However, if you think your situation is super unique and you like filling out paperwork and making videos, go ahead! Who are we to stand in your way?
